You Pray

I remember when I was younger and hadn’t been going to church very long. I was always nervous about praying in front of others. I sat down once for a meal with a friend of mine and he said, “John say the blessing.” I looked towards him with surprise only to see that he had his head down, as if to say, “I’ll wait.” He wasn’t giving me a way out, I was going to say the prayer. He wasn’t doing this to be mean, but rather to train me. I needed to learn how to do this.

What if God is calling on you to pray for someone or something. You want to divert this to someone else. What if though the outcome of what He is calling you to pray about depends solely on your prayers? We should pray as though this is always the case. We shouldn’t try to shrug our responsibility to pray. Nor should we try to diminish the value of our prayer. After all, we’re all praying to Jesus and it is His value that matters. So pray like you mean it, put your heart into it and believe.

James 5:16 ISV Therefore, make it your habit to confess your sins to one another and to pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
