With God (Lesson 8)

Understand that we can only accomplish these things with God’s help.

John 15:4-5 KJV 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

We cannot do this without God, but with God all things are possible.

Matthew 19:26 KJV But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Psalm 124:8 KJV Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

When you remember that God is the creator of heaven and earth and is our help. That is no light thing.

He will give us strength to accomplish what it is that He wants to do in us.

Isaiah 40:29-31 KJV 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

One way that is very important to gain strength from God during fasting is to feed on the Word of God. As it says in 1 Peter 2:2-3 KJV 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. If you really think about it, a baby’s natural desire is milk. This is how we should be, it should be natural to crave the Word of God. It will sustain you at all times especially when you are on a fast.

Matthew 4:4 KJV But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

We cannot live solely by food. We need the Word of God.

To prove to you that consuming the Word of God will help you through a fast, let’s look at Moses. When Moses went up to Mount Sinai he fasted 40 days with no food or water. Exodus 34:28 KJV And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. Moses also wrote the first 5 books of the Old Testament while on Mount Sinai. You see Moses was in the Spirit of God consuming the very Words of God as he is writing them. To top it off when Moses comes down he only spends 1 day off of the mountain and returns and repeats the process. So it is possible that Moses didn’t eat anything during this span of time. He possibly could have eaten while he was off the mountain, but not much.

Now I don’t suggest going on a 40 day fast with no water. I do believe that was for this particular situation. 40 days without food though can be done.

Jeremiah 15:16 KJV Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Spend time consuming the Word of God, ask God for strength and He will strengthen you. Think of the impossible situations that were done through God’s strength and help. David kills Goliath, the 3 Hebrew boys walk in a fiery furnace, Daniel survives a lion’s den, I could go on. If God helped them, He will help us.

Luke 24:49 KJV And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 1:8 KJV But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…

The Holy Ghost gives us power to overcome, because Jesus has already overcome the world.

Romans 8:37 WEB No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Through Jesus we are warriors and conquerors in the Spirit.

Philippians 1:6 WEB being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Jesus will complete a perfect work in us if we lean on Him.

So encourage yourself with these words. Go forth and conquer the enemy. Take on the gates of hell and win not just the battle but the war.

Numbers 13:30 KJV …Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
