The story of Achan is a sad story. The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years and saw many miracles. Daily they were fed miraculously and their clothes didn’t wear out for 40 years. Then they come out of the wilderness crossing the Jordan River in a miraculous way. They take Jericho miraculously. Then Achan sins, costing many innocent people their lives. From the ones that died in the battle with Ai to his own family.

Why would Achan ever do this? I propose it was because he got so used to God and the miraculous that it became commonplace to him, it became boring. He had become dissatisfied and no longer had an appreciation for God nor His miraculous provision. Especially the daily miracles. That his clothes didn’t wear out and that he was fed from heaven. He got bored with God just taking care of his daily needs. So bored that he began to look outside of the things of God for his satisfaction.

We need to never forget that we get to go to church. We get to live for God. We get to live a life separated from the world. These may be common parts of our lives, but should never be commonplace. We should not take these things for granted. These are not burdens, but privileges. Our salvation was bought with a price. We should never lose appreciation that Jesus died to provide a way for us. He bought our wedding garment that will never grow old. We shouldn’t get bored with it and want to change these garments for something that catches our eyes. We shouldn’t be window shopping in the world for a different garment.

If you have received the Holy Ghost then this is a miracle. You should never forget that these are things that the angels desire to look into (1 Peter 1:12 KJV).

Never forget how blessed we are. How we have this treasure in earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV). Let us always be very thankful for this and never take it for granted.

Psalm 68:19 KJV Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
