Which Hour

In Matthew chapter 20, we get our idea of an 11th hour Christian. This is the person that never lived for God. They spent their lives living any old way that they wanted and at the very last moments of their lives (oftentimes on their deathbed) they turn to Jesus. They then inherit eternal life just as the one that spent their entire lives living for God. Now unlike the first hour labourers in this story, I rejoice at this. What amazing grace this is. They don’t miss heaven because of their life spent living only for themselves. They get to spend eternity with Jesus just like those that spent their entire lives serving God.

What they do miss though is the ability and privilege they get from living for God. They don’t get to lead others to Jesus. They don’t get to teach Bible Studies. Who knows how many countless lives they could have affected. They don’t get to give of themselves to others for the gospel. They don’t get to go to church with fellow saints and fellowship with those we plan on spending eternity with. They don’t get to live a life in God’s grace and share it with others. It is absolutely amazing that they don’t miss heaven, but oh the things they miss on earth.

You see too many people worry about what they will miss by living for God. I say you have no idea what you might miss if you don’t. Don’t miss the opportunity to spend two lifetimes with God. One living here on earth and one in eternity.

2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
