I once saw a doctor about my back. He told me to put a heating pad on it, but he said that I should set a timer. He said this is because if you’re in constant pain and you get relief your body will often just fall asleep.
Have you ever started reading your Bible and just fell asleep? Like it hits you suddenly and you’re out. There are different things that could be causing this, but there is an important one that I want to address. If you are walking around in constant emotional pain and anxiety. You seem to have the weight of the world on your shoulders. You decide at some point to sit down and read the Bible. When you begin to read the Bible peace starts to flow through you, even though you don’t realize it. Suddenly you feel a relief from the anxiety and emotional pain that you have been dealing with. You feel that relief and suddenly fall asleep. Remember that Jesus said: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 NET). Reading the Bible is a step towards Him. It is coming to Him, this results in rest.
Instead of feeling guilty that you have fallen asleep when you try to read the Bible. Recognize that it holds the healing that your soul needs. Realize that the peace that you are trying to find can be found here. Make it a common practice to read the Bible and you will find that you will have more and more peace. The more peace that you have the less pain you will be dealing with. This can also result in you being able to read the Bible without falling asleep because you will begin to exist in peace, instead of just experiencing it randomly.
Matthew 11:28 BBE Come to me, all you who are troubled and weighted down with care, and I will give you rest.
Psalm 127:2 KJV It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Psalm 107:20 NET He sent them an assuring word and healed them; he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped.
