You know that if you read something that someone you know has written that you will oftentimes hear their voice in it. Not only will you hear their voice through the words that you read, you will recognize their manner of speaking. You will read something they have written and say yep that sounds like something that they would say. Such as what you are reading now. Those that know me and read this have this experience. Those that may not know me or don’t know me as well may not have this experience. These may have a different experience. When they read what I have written they will become accustomed to my manner of speaking. If we have the opportunity to meet some day and converse for a while they may make the connection the opposite way. They may hear what they have read coming from me.
A relationship with Jesus can be like this. You may not audibly hear His voice, but you can get to know Him through His Word. Then when the Word is preached or spoken you will recognize it. You will hear God’s voice so to speak in the words that are delivered. The more time you spend in His Word and in His presence the more you will recognize His manner of speaking. Then when He does speak to you, you’ll recognize His voice.
