Unity

My Daddy taught me about unity when I was very young. He told me to grab a stick and break it. So I did. Then he told me to grab 3 or 4 sticks of the same size and put them together and try to break them. I gathered the sticks, but I could not break them. This reminds me of the verse that says a threefold cord is not quickly broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12 KJV).

Unity is a powerful thing. It is so powerful that it is compared to the anointing in Psalm 133:1-2 (KJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments.

Now if unity is that powerful that it is compared to the anointing. Imagine how powerful a group of united anointed people could be. With this knowledge we should all continue forward with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:2-3 NET). We must strive to be united in purpose so that we can advance the kingdom of God.

Philippians 2:2-4 NET 2 complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose. 3 Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. 4 Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.
