As parents we want to interact with our children, even when they get older and have their own lives. It’s nice to just have a conversation with them to catch up. Too often lives get busy and it’s hard to come by this time. Many times though we just don’t take advantage of the time. We pass on by conversations for whatever fleeting thing that is at hand. I had a point in time when I would call one of my children, and we would talk for a few minutes. Then they’d say something like, “Well I’m going to let you go and watch my movie.” Or they’d just get off the phone after a few minutes, seemingly like they just didn’t want to talk. One of these times I was just waiting for it, because they told me when I called that they were watching a movie. Sure enough after a few minutes they were ready to go. We got off the phone and I thought to myself. “You can watch a movie anytime. You don’t always get to talk to me.”
Before I could finish my thought, it hit me. Don’t we do this to Jesus? We have the opportunity to spend time talking with Him, but we watch a video, play on our phones, or just do nothing. We disconnect from fellowship with Him for our entertainment. Instead of spending time with the Creator of the universe, we scroll through social media, wasting time. Then when trouble arises we suddenly find the time to pray. Wouldn’t it be better to have fellowship with God regularly than only call on Him when we need Him? Let’s make the effort to show God that He is valuable to us by spending time with Him. Remember once you’ve spent the time that you can’t get it back, so spend it wisely.

“Because I called out to you and you refused to respond— I appealed, but no one paid attention— 25 because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction, 26 I will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when what you fear comes,
