My momma made the best pecan pies. I mean to the point that I didn’t eat other people’s pecan pies, because they didn’t measure up. One day I asked her how she made her pies. Her answer had me in stitches. She said, “I just follow the recipe on the side of the Karo bottle.” This is exactly what she did, but why were her pies so much better if she was following the same recipe? She did something different in preparation. She always crushed her pecans. You see when you crush the pecans, you release the oils and flavors in them. This then permeates the pie. Whole pecans sit on top of the pie and you can’t taste it throughout the pie. Also I have bitten into a bad tasting pecan in a pie that has whole pecans. This leaves a bad taste in your mouth. On the contrary with crushed pecans if there is a bad pecan it gets absorbed into the rest of them and you can’t taste it.
The anointing oil in the Old Testament was made of myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, cassia and olive oil. All of the ingredients in the anointing oil were crushed to release what was needed out of them. The anointing oil could not be made if these ingredients were not crushed. Likewise our anointing, our calling will crush us to release out of us what is needed. The impurities that are in our lives will be pressed out. The things that would stop us from being ineffective will be removed. This will be done so that our light or rather God’s light in us can burn brightly, giving direction to those who are in darkness looking for a way of escape. So if you are feeling a crushing and though the process may be painful, take heart that God is working something beautiful in you.
Exodus 27:20 NET “You are to command the Israelites that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, so that the lamps will burn regularly.
Romans 12:1 KJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
