The Patient Warrior

Have you ever heard a group of guys talking about fights they’ve won? Often when one tells his story another will follow with their own story. People, especially men, want to show their strength. This is often told through fights won or great feats of strength. What you don’t hear people bragging about is how patient they are. You don’t hear them talking a lot about their self control. But the Word says better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city (Proverbs 16:32 NIV). Being patient and having the strength to have self control. These are better than being a warrior, greater than winning a battle against a city.

Don’t think that the internal battles that you have fought don’t get heaven’s attention. Don’t think resisting the enemies temptations aren’t eternally important. No, these battles are magnificent battles to be compared to David and his mighty men. After all it was this internal struggle that David once failed at. He could defeat Goliath, but not his own fleshly desires when it came to Bathsheba.

Every time you win against your own flesh you are a mighty man or woman of valor. So hold your head up, grab your shield of faith and sword of the Spirit. Fight the good fight. Stand against the enemy. Stand against your own fleshly desires. Hold your head high, for you are mighty warrior, you are more than a conqueror.

Romans 8:37 KJV

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
