Psalm 30:5 KJV …weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Some may read this and wonder why is this pain lasting so long. Why hasn’t God stepped in, because it’s only supposed to be for a night. Job gives insight on this.
Job 30:17 KJV My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
Sometimes the night is a season. Seasons are longer and sometimes overlap. You look at the calendar and it says winter is over, but you look outside and it’s still cold. There may still be a frost. You may have some warm days, but there may be days that you have to bundle up. You may start coming out of your night season and have times that you still feel down, times that you feel like you’ve relapsed. This is just the time of the season changing. Just like when the sun comes up in the morning. It doesn’t just pop up and suddenly it’s daylight and it’s warm. No it comes up slowly, dawning a new day. It may take a little time before the rays of the sunshine reach every part of your life, but it will. What do you do in the meantime? Let’s look at Psalm 22.
Psalm 22:1-4 KJV My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
You can see the distress in the first 2 verses. In verse 2 he even confesses that he doesn’t feel like God is listening to him. But in verse 3 we find a shift. The psalmist shifts to praise. He may be thinking that God isn’t listening, but he’s going to praise anyway. Why? Because God is worthy no matter our circumstances. Second God inhabits the praises of His people, so He can get closer to God by praise. Third, praise changes how you feel. Then in verse 4 he begins to speak of God’s faithfulness. He talks about how He can be trusted and that there is a history of this. This is where you get in the Word of God. Recall His goodness and faithfulness. Dig deep in the Word of God and hold onto His promises.
So if you’re in a night season. Hold on it won’t last forever because seasons don’t last forever. Pray even though you may feel like God isn’t hearing you. Praise and get in His presence. Read His Word, meditate in it and remember that God is faithful and can be trusted.
Psalm 16:7 NHEB I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.
Psalm 126:1-6 KJV 1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. 3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
