My son Levi, who was 20 months old, was running around one day and I was following him. He fell down and I helped him back up. Unfortunately he tried to take off running before he had his feet back under him and fell again.
We understand that you have to get your balance before you can run again. We also know that depending on how hard you fell and what injuries you incurred, it may take some time before you run. You may have to walk for a while.
My Daddy told me that he got scarlet fever when he was 16 and had to learn to walk again. He was old enough that he already knew how to walk, but due to the nature of what took him down he had to start over.
In the spiritual walk with God we always say that you must get back up. It is unnatural to stay down, so we must get back up. We quote for a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief (Proverbs 24:16 KJV).
So yes it is true that you have to get back up. Understand though that you may not just hop back up and take off running. You may have to get your balance. Depending on your fall you may have to recover. You may have to work on standing first. You may have to limp a little. You may have to lean on others for a while. You may have to walk a little. There may have to be healing depending on the circumstances of your fall.
I say this so you don’t get discouraged after a fall. We wouldn’t expect someone who took a physical fall to immediately hop back up and be fine. Why would we expect this in the spiritual? So understand just because you aren’t running after a fall doesn’t mean that you haven’t gotten back up. You may just be moving slower until you fully recover.
Psalm 145:14 KJV The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
Hebrews 12:12-13 CEB
12 So strengthen your drooping hands and weak knees! 13 Make straight paths for your feet so that if any part is lame, it will be healed rather than injured more seriously.
