The Dead Things

I saw an old dead tree once in the middle of a patch of lively pine trees. It stuck out like a sore thumb. It was taller than the pines and although it was dead it drew your attention. It is our nature to see the negative first.

You may have something in your life that once was alive and well, but now is dead. Now, you just want it gone, but it just stands there. It’s an eye sore in your life, it’s rottenness disgusts you. There is life all around it, but you focus on the deadness that you see. It’s hard to focus on all the good things in your life because of it.

Just hold on though. Because that which is dead can grow no longer. Just as all the pine trees will outgrow the dead tree and you’ll no longer see it. They will soon be a distant memory. I have a phrase, “everything bad that has ever happened to me is just a memory.” Memories and life experiences are what shape us into who we are. The good things in your life will outgrow the dead things. Eventually the dead things will crumble and fall, fertilizing the things in your life that need to grow.

Romans 8:18 BBE I am of the opinion that there is no comparison between the pain of this present time and the glory which we will see in the future.

1 Peter 1:6-7 NET 6 This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials. 7 Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold – gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away – and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
