The Appearance of Evil

I once had a fella telling me about the things he did for entertainment. Rather he was trying to justify what he did. Understand that the things he was telling me that he did I disagreed with him about this is why he was justifying it. He eventually said well it’s my money and if I spend it doing this activity or that it doesn’t matter. This is a false statement. If you are a Christian there are things that you shouldn’t do.

Remember that the Word says Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? (1 Corinthians 10:21-22 KJV).

You may say it’s just a little entertainment. I’m not hurting anyone. The Word says do not give any room to the devil (Ephesians 4:27 Easy English). We should not give the enemy any room in our lives. We should not entertain him for a moment. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2 KJV).

Remember that the devil and those that fell with him are fallen angels. Don’t you think if you can entertain good angels that you can entertain bad ones?

People say that it’s their life they can do what they want. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV). One of you may say: ‘I am free to do anything. I can do anything that I want to do.’ But not everything will help you. I myself could say: ‘I am free. I can do whatever things I want to do.’ Yes, but I will not let anything rule over me (1 Corinthians 6:12 Easy English). You say that it doesn’t have rule over you. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16 KJV). And remember a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump  (Galatians 5:9 KJV).

For some because it’s not spelled out in the Bible that is wrong you think it’s not wrong. In Galatians 5 Paul gives a list of works of the flesh. Then he follows it with this statement in verse 21 and such like. That means that there are things that are wrong that he didn’t list. These things can be summed up in this verse abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV).

Remember when Joseph refused Potiphar’s wife advancements that there was no written law forbidding this. Joseph though had a law written in his character. He wanted to please God.

Now I don’t want you to get hung up on what we can’t do. It’s not a list of rules, but rather a relationship with Jesus. Just like if you are married there are things you don’t do because you’re married. You don’t avoid these things as a list of rules, but you love your partner and you honor them. In honoring them there are just simply some things that you abstain from. The same goes for our relationship with Jesus. We want to please Him. We want to honor Him in everything we do.

Romans 12:1-2 KJV 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1 Peter 2:15-16 KJV 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
