We find an interesting story in the book of Exodus.
Exodus 17:11-13 (NLT)
11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
I wonder if any of the army of Israel thought at any point, “he ain’t doing nothing, but standing there, oh look now he’s sitting down, while we are in battle.” They may not have done this, but I do wonder. I’m sure the majority recognized what was happening and even in battle offered up prayers for Moses.
What does this have to do with us today? Maybe you are engaged in a battle and you look towards your Pastor or other spiritual leadership in your life. You may look at them and think, they don’t look like they even care about what is going on in my life. You may think that they don’t even recognize that you are in a battle. What you may not know is that they are offering up prayers for you. And this gets heavy, just as Moses arms got heavy. This makes them weary at times. The question I have for you is do you lift them up in prayer? Do you check on them and see how they are doing? Do you offer support to them by taking some load off of them?
How about this, you go to service Sunday morning. The Preacher gets up and delivers the sermon, which he has spent hours studying, praying over and seeking direction. Service comes to an end and you load up and leave having been fed spiritually. The question is did you pray for the service? Did you minister to someone? Did you thank the Preacher for delivering a word? Did you grab your stuff and leave not thinking that if nobody else does it the very same Preacher that just delivered a sermon has to walk around the church and check doors, pick up trash, turn lights off, etc.
You see we all need to support each other, yes even your leadership. They are human and need your support too. Help them where you see that they need help and by all means pray for them. Lift up the hands which hang down (Hebrews 12:12 KJV).
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV) “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” .
Galatians 6:2 (ESV) “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” .
