Salt, commonly referred to as table salt, is made up of the elements sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl), forming the compound sodium chloride (NaCl).
If you remove the sodium element from salt you are left with only chlorine, which is a gas at room temperature and would not have the same physical properties or taste as salt; essentially, you would no longer have salt as the salty flavor which primarily comes from the sodium ion in the compound.
Removing the sodium component leaves only chlorine, which is a completely different substance.
Chlorine in its elemental form (not bound to sodium as in salt) is very dangerous, as it is a highly toxic gas that can be lethal if inhaled thus making it extremely hazardous.
Salt has many uses. Some of these are.
To flavor and preserve food. To clean multiple types of services. Salt is also used in pottery to create a glaze that waterproofs and beautifies the pottery. Among many other uses.
As previously mentioned though if you remove the taste factor, the sodium, it is not only useless it creates a hazardous situation.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:13 KJV Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Salt might lose its flavor when it contains chemical impurities. The Word says in 2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
We must mingle ourselves in the things of this world thus contaminating our spiritual lives. That doesn’t mean that we don’t hang around people. It means that we don’t let them affect us, we must affect them.
Salt found in the earth can lose its saltiness when exposed to rain, sun, and air. left behind a substance that looked like salt but did not taste like it.
We can’t let the storms of this life wear us out and steal our effectiveness. We can become hazardous to others around contaminating their lives with spiritually toxic thoughts and actions. Possibly even contributing to them becoming spiritually sick or even their spiritual death.
Galatians 6:9 KJV And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
We are supposed to be the salt of the earth. We are supposed to be effective. The flavor of the salt is the effectiveness of it. If salt doesn’t have flavor your not going to put it on your food or use it for anything else. You’re just going to throw it away. We must stay effective. We must influence those around us to want to drink of the living water that is Christ. So stay ever vigilant to stay salty.
2 Peter 1:5-8 ISV 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to supplement your faith with moral character, your moral character with knowledge, 6 your knowledge with self-control, your self-control with endurance, your endurance with godliness, 7 your godliness with brotherly kindness, and your brotherly kindness with love. 8 For if you possess these qualities, and if they continue to increase among you, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in attaining a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.
