Something From Nothing

I remember riding around with my old Daddy and him pointing out places that used to be this or that. He would tell me that a spot used to be a cotton field or just a wooded area. Now, it is a bustling place of business or a collection of homes.

Have you ever watched the transition of a piece of land over many years like this? I have, many times. I’ve seen land so overgrown with brush and weeds that it looked like you couldn’t even walk through it. Then, someone decided to do something with it. They cleared it, moved the dirt around, and one day when you drive by, it doesn’t even look like the same place. It may have a beautiful home or business standing there. What once looked worthless now looks priceless.

Jesus can do the exact same thing in someone’s life.

I remember being approached at work by a man who said, “I heard you used to really be something before you started going to church.” I looked at him and replied, “No sir, I used to be nothing until Jesus changed me. Now, I’m something.”

You may think, “I am too far gone,” or “They are beyond repair.” But you do not understand the scale of God. Let’s go all the way back to Genesis. The Bible says that “the earth was without form and void”—meaning it was completely empty. There was absolutely nothing but blank space.

We humans are used to seeing repairs done to existing things, but God started with nothing at all. And what did He do with that nothing? Look around at all the magnificent things He created.

You may be thinking that you have nothing to offer to God right now. You may feel empty and useless.

Perfect. Give that nothing to God and watch what He can do. He specializes in turning nothing into something amazing. He loves to turn your emptiness into a life full and overflowing. Don’t believe me? Just look around at what He made the first time He started with nothing.

Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Luke 1:37 KJV

For with God nothing shall be impossible.
