Somebody’s Gotta Do it

I’ve sat in many conversations with people about housework. Inevitably someone is going to say something like. “I don’t know why they just can’t take out the trash or replace the bag when I do.” Or, “I don’t know why they won’t empty the dishwasher or pick this up or that.” Basically saying why others won’t do what needs to be done. Often others don’t do this because they are waiting on someone else to do it. I’m not talking about if you honestly didn’t see that it needed to be done. No, I’m talking about those who knew that it needed to be done and chose not to do it. It doesn’t matter if it’s your mess or not. As I say, ‘If you see it you own it.” If you share a home with someone, be it family or roommates and you see something that needs to be done then you should do it. If everybody chips in it makes it easier on everybody.

The same goes for the church and living for God. I once saw a young man at church take a glass out of the cabinet and used it to drink a coke. When he was done he put it in the sink. I asked him if he was going to wash it. He replied, “the night help can get it.” To which I replied, “You are the night help, wash the glass.” You see sometimes we are the answer to what needs to be done. If we see something that needs to be done we shouldn’t leave it for someone else. Somebody has to attend to it, why not you or me. If we are at church and we see trash that needs to be dealt with, lights that need to be changed, or dishes that need to be washed then we should not turn a blind eye. If we see an area or ministry where help is needed, we should find out what we can do to help. Pray about what you should do and ask your Pastor where you can help. You may not be called to fulfill that particular ministry, but you can pray for them and you can support them. You can help bear the burden. Somebody’s gotta do it and that somebody might be you.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Proverbs 3:27 NET Do not withhold good from those who need it, when you have the ability to help.
