If you write sin out it doesn’t matter if it’s all caps and bold, if it’s in pretty looking fonts, or if it’s really tiny. Sin is still spelled the same. Which means sin is sin. Just because your sin is different from somebody else’s doesn’t mean that either is worse than the other. Both have the same results—separation from God. Interestingly enough, did you know that “sin” in Spanish means without. That’s a good way to explain sin, without.
I want you to look at something with me. In Revelations 21:27 (KJV) it says this about heaven “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Look at that, an abomination and a lie. An abomination, that thing we would consider the worst thing someone could do. Then a lie, what we might consider to be one of the smallest sins. An abomination, a lie, and everything in between are the same to God. They all can keep us from heaven.
John talks about sin in 1 John 1:5-9 (KJV) This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The bad news is that sin can separate us from God. The Good News is that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Let’s do an inventory of our lives and make sure that we aren’t hiding some sin in our hearts. If there is, then repent. Let’s serve God faithfully and grieve not the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).
Psalm 119:11 KJV Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalm 139:23-24 KJV 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
