Tree roots anchor the tree in the soil, keeping it straight and stable, and absorb water from the soil. Tree roots also take nutrients and chemicals out of the soil and use them to produce what they need for the tree’s growth, development, and repair. There are a few things that can cause a tree’s roots to grow deeper. One of these things is drought. The roots will grow deeper in search of water. The other is wind. Trees in windy areas often develop deeper, stronger root systems to anchor themselves more effectively against strong winds. The roots do this as a survival mechanism to keep the tree alive.
We should mimic these attributes of the trees. When a spiritual season of drought comes we should deepen our roots. Go deep into the Word of God. Read, study, pray, and stay faithful. Just as it’s not advisable to move trees during a drought, as the stress of transplanting can be detrimental to their survival. The same goes for our spiritual drought. We shouldn’t be trying to uproot and move around to different churches because we are in a dry season. Moving around like this can be harmful and possibly even detrimental. We will all encounter a dry season at some point. This is the time to grow your roots deeper. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3 KJV).
In the windy or stormy seasons we must do the same. Keep enduring the storm even though it may make you bend against the pressure, don’t give up. Do just as Abraham did. He who continued hoping in spite of hopeless circumstances, he believed that he would become “the father of many nations,” just as he had been told: “This is how many descendants you will have.” His faith did not weaken when he thought about his own body (which was already as good as dead now that he was about a hundred years old) or about Sarah’s inability to have children, nor did he doubt God’s promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, his faith became stronger and he gave glory to God, being absolutely convinced that God would do what he had promised (Romans 4:18-21 ISV). Let’s continue to hope even against hopelessness. Let’s not look at the circumstances, but rather look at God and His ability. Then our faith will grow stronger.
Use these times to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18 WEB). If you let this deepen your root system and anchor yourself to Jesus then you’ll be even stronger.
Ephesians 3:16-17 KJV 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Colossians 2:7 ISV For you have been rooted in him and are being built up and strengthened in the faith, just as you were taught, while you continue to be thankful.
