Root Bound

A root bound plant is a plant whose roots have outgrown their container, becoming a dense, tangled mass that encircles the pot’s interior, leaving little space for soil, water, and nutrients. This condition restricts the plant’s ability to absorb what it needs, leading to stunted growth, wilting, yellowing leaves, and overall decline. You can identify it by pulling the plant from its pot to find roots tightly wound around the root ball, rather than spreading out in the soil.  Since the roots can’t intake water very effectively being packed so tight, the plant is always thirsty and wilting. Your plant will probably keep wilting no matter how much you water it to perk up. It can also become susceptible to root rot if the roots have blocked the drainage holes of their pot causing them to end up sitting in water. The stressful state of a root bound plant makes them more susceptible to pests

Now how does this apply to us? We are meant to help people, to lift them up, to reach for souls. If we are all tangled up in our own lives in our own little circle then we can become root bound. Once we become root bound we may not receive all the nutrients we need and may still remain thirsty though we are being fed and watered effectively. We may become more susceptible to attacks from the enemy. As the phrase goes, “ A man all wrapped up in himself makes a pretty small package.”

We must reach beyond ourselves to help others. We must reach out of our circle and stretch our roots out to nourish others, thus making us grow. Jesus said I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit… (John 15:5 WEB). Let’s bear fruit that will help others.

Colossians 2:7 NLV

7 Have your roots planted deep in Christ. Grow in Him. Get your strength from Him. Let Him make you strong in the faith as you have been taught. Your life should be full of thanks to Him.
