I work in industry. In industrial settings we have what are called work instructions. These are detailed documents that tell you how to perform a job or task.

If you have a question on how to do a job you can refer to the work instruction. You may still have to get an experienced operator to assist you if you don’t understand.

I have heard said by operators, “we’ve always done it this way.” The general response is, “what does the work instruction say?” Because that is the way the job is supposed to be done.

The Bible is our ultimate work instruction. It tells us how we should live. It instructs us in the ways of life. It tells us how to make it to heaven. As it says  2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We may find ourselves in the place where we say, “but I’ve always done it this way.” The true question is what does the work instruction say? Because this isn’t a task at work, this is eternity. This is why Paul writes work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12 KJV).

Our salvation should be worked out using the work instruction provided. Because as Jesus said: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day (John 12:48 KJV).

We most certainly will need others to instruct us in the Word. For he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12 KJV).

Get the work instruction out. Read it and study it. When you don’t understand it, get someone to explain it.

Psalm 119:133 KJV Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
