To piggyback on the previous post. What if the ministry that God has for you is to be a good godly parent? If you are a parent, then you are called to be a good, godly parent. What if though that is your ministry? What if you’re raising someone that can do a great work for God?
Someone had to raise the heroes of Faith, be they in the Bible or people we know. Yes, I know they all had to have an encounter with God to get them where they were, but there had been someone in their life to help them get there. I had heard what we consider to be great preacher’s say that their parents were people of faith and that’s why they are who they are.
What if you were called to raise a man or woman of God? Would they make it? Would they love God? Would they know how to pray? What attributes would they have, good or bad? Now don’t lose hope. If you have not done the best at this then get up and start now. As it says in Ephesians 6:4 (ISV) bring them up by training and instructing them about the Lord.
If you read Deuteronomy 6 you’ll understand that it should be part of who we are. It will just pour out of us if that’s what we are full of. I find it interesting right after the commandment is given: love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. That the first thing that comes up is live it and live it in front of your children. That’s what I get when I read let these words that I’m commanding you today be always on your heart. Teach them repeatedly to your children. Talk about them while sitting in your house or walking on the road, and as you lie down or get up. Tie them as reminders on your forearm, bind them on your forehead, and write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates (Deuteronomy 6:6-9 ISV).”
So, believe it or not, if you are a parent then this is part of your calling. You are called to raise a man or woman of God. So make your calling and election sure and let’s do our best to point our children towards heaven. Who knows what impact they will have.
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 KJV 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Now I know there are some parents that have been diligent about this and their children may not be living for God. This is heartbreaking and I hope and pray that one day they will turn to God. For you, remember Jesus’s brothers didn’t follow Him at first either.
