Our Own Doing

I was once at church in the foyer in conversation with some others. One of them went and adjusted the thermostat because they were hot. A few minutes later the same person that adjusted the thermostat told me as they walked towards the thermostat, “I’m sorry, I know you like it cold in here, but I’m cold and need to adjust the temperature.” I replied, “I haven’t touched it, it’s still where you set it earlier.” She laughed and said, “you’re right,” as she continued on. You see she was uncomfortable with the atmosphere that she had created.

We do this in our lives sometimes. It may be that we spend our money on frivolous things and then ask God why He isn’t providing for us. We may treat others negatively and then wonder why nobody wants to be around us much. More prevalent though is we don’t read our Bibles, we don’t pray, we don’t consecrate and we wonder why we are struggling spiritually. As human nature is, we start looking for the culprit to our problems in things and others around us. We want to blame the church, the pastor, or our spouse. We want to blame any and everybody else for the atmosphere that we have created. When in all reality we are the ones responsible.

When we admit this and take personal responsibility for it then we can begin to change it. My friend could have stopped and argued with me, but she just agreed and continued on to change the temperature. It would do us great good to be like this. Don’t stop and try to place blame or prove your innocence. Rather continue forward and change your atmosphere.

Romans 12:2 KJV …be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Acts 3:19 NHEB “Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,
