My wife was at a doctor’s appointment once. She had already been brought to the back and placed in a room. She had been there for quite some time, so she stepped out to see what was going on. When she did, the Doctor saw her and said “Oh, I forgot you were in there.” Obviously, this upset my wife because of the time wasted, and nobody wants to be forgotten.
I want to address something to possibly help you. You see we enjoy forgiveness because of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. We should want to forgive others because of the grace that was shown to us. I feel like though that some feel that because someone has been forgiven for an offence against us that our pain has been forgotten. It’s not that you hold a grudge against the person that hurt you. No, it’s that you still hurt. Because let’s be honest just because you forgive someone doesn’t mean that you may not still hurt. It does not mean that there won’t still be pain. For example if someone cut you and it left a scar, even if you forgive them there will be a scar. What I want to address is that Jesus does not forget you, because the offender has been forgiven. Let’s look at the lineage of Christ in Matthew.
Matthew 1:3 KJV And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Matthew 1:6 KJV And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias(Uriah).
Zara and Uriah had no place in the lineage of Christ. They were not ancestors of Christ. Zara’s place as the firstborn had been taken by Phares (Genesis 38:28-30). Uriah’s wife had been taken by David. Then Uriah was set up to die. Zara had been done wrong. Uriah sinned against. Yet God never mentions the wrongdoing or David’s sin. He did mention the ones who had been wronged though.
Why? Why was it important to mention those that did not belong here? To show that God did not forget them even though the offenders had been forgiven. It is the same way with you and your offenders. God has not forgotten you and the pain that you endured. He has not forgotten your tears. God has not forgotten you nor will He.
Isaiah 49:15 NHEB “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
Psalm 56:8 NLT You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
