I remember my Uncle Fred telling about a man that had done him wrong. He was furious about it. He told his brother, my Uncle Dave, about it and he told Uncle Fred to just be nice to the man. Uncle Fred thought this sounded crazy, but he took Uncle Dave’s advice. After some time the man approached Uncle Fred and told him that he was driving him crazy by being nice. He told Uncle Fred that he knew he’d done wrong and apologized. Uncle Dave understood having peace in a situation.
Isaiah 53:5 KJV But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
I’ve heard this scripture read it, quoted it. And for some reason overlooked part of it every time. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him. Chastisement is defined as severe criticism; a rebuke or strong reprimand, corporal punishment or a beating. When Jesus was being taunted, rebuked, criticized and just all around chastised by the soldiers and those around. He took that for our peace. Can you imagine going through the beating, the crown of thorns, carrying the cross? All while being yelled at from all around. That would be enough to drive anyone crazy. Jesus took all of that so when the world and everything around us is going crazy, we can have peace. Are you tired of not having peace? Jesus made a way so that we don’t have to live in turmoil. Jesus said in John 14:27 WEB Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
We have to be willing to have peace. That sounds like a crazy thing to say, but it says in Colossians 3:15 WEB And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…
If we have to let it happen that means that we can deny having peace. Jacob did this in Genesis 37:35 he refused to be comforted. If we want to hold onto whatever has hurt us, if we want to hold onto our pain. Then we cannot know the way of peace Romans 3:17 KJV And the way of peace have they not known.
The way of peace, what is the way? John 14:6 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
You want peace? Not just peace for the moment, but to live in peace. You have to go through Jesus. Notice when Jesus was talking about peace earlier we were in John chapter 14, now we find ourselves back in chapter 14. Jesus was tying this altogether for us.
John 14:16-18 KJV 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:26-27 KJV 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jesus starts talking about the Comforter and starts explaining who the Comforter is. He says the Comforter was dwelling with those that were listening to Him and that He would be in them. Then He further clarifies that He will not leave them/us comfortless, but He will come. Then He says that the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, whom would come in Jesus name. So it should be clear that the Holy Ghost/Comforter is Jesus. Need more proof?
1 John 5:7 KJV For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
John 1:1+14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
So when we put these together and understand that Jesus is the Word and He, the Father and the Holy Ghost are one. Then we can understand that for true peace we must have Jesus living in us, and thus the Holy Ghost living in us. Please don’t pass this by. Don’t refuse to be comforted, let Jesus into your life completely. Allow the peace of God that passes understanding to keep you hearts and minds.
Philippians 4:7 KJV And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
