One day, a friend of mine was talking to my two-year-old son, Levi.
Pointing to me, my friend asked, “Who is that?” “Daddy,” Levi replied.
Pointing to my wife, he asked, “Who’s that?” “Mommy,” Levi said.
Then my friend asked, “Who am I?” Without missing a beat, Levi looked at him and said, “Jesus.” My friend quickly corrected him, but there’s an important lesson here.
It reminded me that we are called to be Christ-like. We read in Ephesians 4:32 (KJV) And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. And in Romans 13:14 (KJV) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. These with other scriptures compel us to be Christ-like.
We must at all times be mindful of how we act. Not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because we represent Christ. And for many people we encounter, our actions, words, and love may be the only glimpse of Jesus they ever see. We must keep this truth close to our hearts as we go through each day.
Matthew 5:16 (NIV) In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
