Lemons

Did you know that lemons are not a naturally occurring fruit? They are actually a hybrid created through human cultivation. We often say, “When life gives you lemons…” But the truth is, life didn’t give us lemons; we invented them!

Now, I understand the sentiment of the phrase “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” It teaches us to make the best out of unpleasant situations. While that is a great lesson, there is an even deeper lesson to be found in the history of the fruit itself. Often, our troubles are a direct result of our own decisions and actions.

If we blow the engine in our car because we never checked the oil, that’s on us. If we are broke because we don’t manage our money and spend without concern, that’s on us. We can’t blame “life” for the storms we engineered.

We often plant bad seeds and then pray for a crop failure. But the law of the harvest doesn’t work that way. We must take responsibility for our decisions. Let’s make sure we are owning our actions and actively planting the exact things we actually want to see grow.

Galatians 6:7 (KJV): “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
