Learning To Lean

If you have ever sustained an injury that caused you to have to walk with crutches you learn something. You learn that there is a right and wrong way to walk with crutches. The correct technique is crucial for safety and proper healing and it prevents further injury. The correct way to walk with crutches is this. The crutches always go first. Then you can step to or through the crutches as you move forward.

Sometimes we go through tough times in life. Times that we feel that we can’t stand much less walk by ourselves. In these times we should lean on Jesus. How do you lean on Jesus though? Just like walking with the crutches we put Him first. Then we step to Him and walk through the strength that He gives. As it says in Philippians 4:13 (KJV) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

How do we do this? Read the Word of God finding our strength in it. Then we can say as the Psalmist: my soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word (Psalm 119:28 KJV).

Spend time in prayer casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7 KJV). So that we can learn to not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NET).

Put worship music on and spend time in worship. For the LORD strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude (Psalm 28:7 NET).

Attend church regularly. Some people have stopped going regularly to our Christian meetings, but we must not stop going there. Then we can help each other to be strong Christians. You should do this more and more, because the Lord’s great day is coming. You know that the Lord will return soon (Hebrews 10:25 Easy English).

Build your faith by listening to the preached Word of God. Because faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17 KJV). And how shall they hear without a preacher (Romans 10:14 KJV)?

We must do these things not like a 911 call to get us out of trouble, but rather a daily exercise that strengthens us. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy, keep thinking about these things. Likewise, keep practicing these things: what you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 ISV).

Isaiah 40:31 KJV But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalm 31:24 KJV Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
