Laugh About It

My 2 year old son, Levi sometimes gets upset as 2 year olds do. It may be a bonked head, a fall or something of that nature. This can result in an upset, crying 2 year old. After verifying that he’s okay often we will try to make him laugh. This most of the time works and he is happy and laughing again.

I feel that it is important for us to remember that it’s okay to laugh. Not only is it okay, it’s good for us. As the Word says a merry heart doeth good like a medicine (Proverbs 17:22 KJV).

Like medicine is an interesting way of saying it. Because according to science laughing helps decrease levels of stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine.  It increases the production of antibody-producing cells and enhances the effectiveness of T cells, which are crucial for fighting disease. It can also trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good hormones, which can provide temporary pain relief. A hearty laugh can relax muscles for up to 45 minutes, and the physical exertion of laughing can be beneficial for the body. Plus it stimulates the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are linked to feelings of happiness and pleasure, fostering a more optimistic outlook.

There is an old saying that says, “sometimes all you can do is laugh about it.” But laughing about it sometimes is the solution. It may not change your situation, but it can change your mood about it. So be happy, laugh and enjoy life because laughter is a gift from God.

Ecclesiastes 3:12 BBE I am certain that there is nothing better for a man than to be glad, and to do good while life is in him.
