I have been passing some roadwork to and from work lately on the interstate. It’s been going on for months. For about a mile you’ll have to merge as the double lane goes down to one and you have to reduce your speed. The thing that really bothers me is it doesn’t look like anything is getting done. I see the barriers. I see the signs that say roadwork ahead. I see people out there with machinery. I have even seen the dirt on the side of the roadway. What I don’t see is progress. They don’t look like they are doing anything to the actual road.
This happens in life. We’re traveling on this road we call life. We run into issues in life. Then we go to God and ask that He work in this situation. Change this for us, fix it for us. We keep praying. Sometimes days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months and months may even turn into years. And we still don’t see anything changing. We see that it is causing us inconveniences. We feel the tightness as the road narrows. It may even cause us to slow down a little. We know God is present in the situation, but we can’t see progress. He will reassure us from time to time that He’s working on it. But we start to get frustrated because we aren’t seeing progress. We don’t see what God is doing. The situations don’t seem to change.
We have to remind ourselves that the one who calls you is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24 ISV). We have to tell ourselves to trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 ISV). God will work it out on His time. We just have to trust Him. Remember it’s not trust if you agree with it. So trust that He is at work even though you can’t see the progress. And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy (Hebrews 10:23 NET) .
Psalm 138:8 Easy English The LORD will do for me everything that he has promised. LORD, your kind love will always continue. Finish the work of your hands.
Psalm 27:13-14 KJV 13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
