Into The Wilderness

Have you ever wanted to spend time with someone alone? You just wanted their companionship. You just wanted to sit down and have a conversation with them. It could have been a serious conversation or just fellowship, but you made an appointed time to see them. Be it lunch or a meeting you wanted their undivided attention.

God sometimes wants this with us. He wants fellowship. He wants to spend time with us. God may draw us away for time alone with Him. Many times we find Jesus going alone to pray. Moses met God alone. Daniel went to his room and prayed alone. David, Abraham, Elijah and many others spent time alone with God. Jesus was led of the Spirit into the wilderness alone.

Sometimes we may find ourselves seemingly alone. Like we are being disconnected from those around us for some reason. Not that they are out of our lives, but they are distant somehow. I think sometimes this is God’s doing. I think He is separating us to spend time with Him. Usually when we start being separated from those around us we feel down. We may even find ourselves slipping into despair. This will usually cause us to call out to God. Seeking help and refuge. We end up spending time with God to be comforted from our separation from others. What if we were attentive to this and when we saw this happening we just spent time with God. Just praying, reading His Word, worshiping, listening. Better yet, before this began to happen that we purposed in our hearts to spend this time with God. That this became a priority in our daily lives to spend time alone with God. God will still call us apart to pray if we do this. But how much more joy do you get when your friend calls you to spend time with you rather than you always having to reach out to them?

If you have the choice when being separated from those around you to go deep into despair or deep into God. Then go deep into God.

1 Chronicles 16:11 NET Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually!

2 Corinthians 13:14 WEB The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s love, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
