It was a common occurrence while I was young for someone to randomly show up to see my Daddy. It may be family or a friend, but he would stop what he was doing and visit. He usually asked if they wanted coffee and they would sit and visit. I remember once, one of my brothers showing up before daylight while Daddy was still asleep. The first thing he said was “somebody make some coffee” and then he got up to visit. You see Daddy didn’t mind being interrupted for fellowship with others.
I feel that we today are so busy that we may not leave room to be interrupted like this. For people and for God. What if God interrupted our day with someone that needed to talk? What if He interrupted our day because He wanted to talk? Are we too busy to stop and talk to God? I’ve heard the phrase: “If you’re too busy to pray, you’re too busy.” If you read through the Bible you’ll find out quickly that God is in the interrupting business. He interrupted Abraham and sent him to another land. He interrupted Moses and sent him to deliver Israel. In the New Testament, He interrupted funerals, the disciples, Paul, etc.
Are we willing to be interrupted by God? What if He interrupts our sleep to pray? Our plans to reach a soul or to help a friend? We must leave room in our lives for Divine interruptions. We should pray, God if you need to interrupt me then do it please and help me be sensitive enough to recognize it.
Proverbs 19:21 ISV Many plans occupy the mind of a man, but the LORD’s purposes will prevail.
