In Spite Of It All

I was once going over the Pendelton Bridge during a horrible rain storm. It was raining so hard that it was difficult to see. As I was reaching the end of the bridge I could see a boat launching out into the water. Apparently there was a fishing tournament going on and they weren’t quitting because of a storm.

Now I don’t advise going out in this type of storm to catch a fish. I do think we should have this determination to be fishers of men. That no matter what is going on in our personal lives. No matter the storm we may find ourselves in. Even if it’s coming down so hard that we can barely see. We gird ourselves with our “rain gear,”  the armor of God, we grab our fishing gear, the Word of God and go fishing. We still reach for a lost soul even though we may be hurting, though we may feel broken. We may even feel like we have nothing to offer. Go fishing anyway. Remember that Jesus was hanging on the cross and still reached for the soul hanging next to Him.

Let’s have this determination that in spite of our circumstances we are fishers of men. That we are going to reach for the lost, no matter what.

2 Timothy 4:2 NET Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction.
