Ignored

I was talking to a friend of mine once and right in the middle of my sentence he just turned and walked away. I called him as he hopped in his truck and said, “Hey man you just walked away while I was talking.” He promptly apologized and said he hated when people did that, he just had a lot on his mind.

People don’t like being ignored. Most of the time nowadays people are distracted by their phones. I remember when it was considered rude to look at your phone while the person in front of you was talking, now it’s the norm, unfortunately. If you are in conversation with someone, you want them to pay attention. Have you ever just stopped talking because you felt like you weren’t being listened to?

On the flip side we don’t like someone ignoring our texts either. When we text someone, it may be that they are busy and don’t have time to look at the message. Perhaps they saw the message, but they are so busy they forget to respond. Then there’s the one that you see they opened the message, but they just didn’t respond. It is very bothersome to be ignored. I don’t like being ignored, you don’t like being ignored and God doesn’t like being ignored.

God sends His Word the Holy text that we should read. Sometimes people find themselves “too busy” to spend time reading the Word. Or they read the Word and get busy with life and forget to apply it. I’ve often heard if you’re too busy for time with God, you’re too busy. Anytime we encounter something in the Word we should respond to it and not ignore it.

God may use the audible word by the preaching of the Word of God. Still people may ignore it. It is very confusing to me for someone to get dressed, drive to church and sit there and ignore the very message they came to hear. Oftentimes people do listen, but choose again to not apply the principles, thus ignoring the Word.

We must be careful to let God’s Word work in us and respond to it. Because if we don’t respond to it, the very Word sent out to be a blessing could turn into a curse. Remember, God said in Isaiah 55:11 (KJV) So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void… the Word will accomplish something. That something could be bad. Remember the Word says  …because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie (2 Thessalonians 2:10-11 KJV 10).

In Deuteronomy it says it will be a blessing if you obey God’s Word and a curse if you don’t. The very Word will judge us. So given the choice why not allow the Word to be a blessing as it is intended and respond to it and let it do a good work in us. Don’t be too distracted that we miss what God is trying to tell us.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28 KJV 26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; 27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
