Honesty Is The Best Policy

There have been times when I did something that upset my children. It may have been I told them no or something like that. Sometimes I would look at my children and ask if I had upset them. I may follow that with an assurance that they weren’t going to get in trouble. If I had upset them, I would then explain to them why I did what I did.

I’ve heard it said to never question God. Apparently nobody told David this. For he wrote in Psalm 13:1 (KJV) How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? And also in Psalm 10:1 NET Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?

Nor did anyone tell the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held (Revelations 6:9 KJV). For they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth (Revelations 6:10 KJV)?

You see it’s not that you ask, but how you ask. If you ask in reverence then it’s okay to ask. All these had great reverence for God, so they asked in humility.

Are you struggling with something that you may not understand? Maybe it’s even something that you disagree with. It’s okay to come to God and ask. He’s not sitting there with a club waiting to hit you when you ask Him an honest heartfelt question. He understands that we will have questions. He is compassionate towards us. Like a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him (Psalm 103:13 NHEB). Not to mention that He already knows our thoughts. So you might as well get it off your chest. I am not going to tell you that you will always get an answer to every question. But if you don’t ask it may become a wedge between you and God.

So bring your questions to God. Pour your heart out before Him, while being honest and respectful. It will be a weight off of your shoulders and you may gain some wisdom and insight.

James 1:5 NET But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.

Matthew 7:7 NET “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.
