God is good! We say it, we proclaim it, but do we question it when it comes to our personal lives? What do I mean? When times are tough do we wonder if He loves us, if He cares? When we fall, when we sin, do we wonder if He will forgive us? If we backslide do we wonder if He will take us back? Is this when we question His goodness, His love?
The Word says in Romans 5:8-9 KJV 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
He was good to us when we were lost in sin. He was good to us when we had no desire to serve Him. He was good to us when we were running the opposite direction. He was good to us when we turned our backs on Him. He was good to us then. He is good to us now. He has never forsaken us. He has never walked away from us. He has never rejected us. Why would He start now? He saved us knowing the mistakes that we would make. He factored in our human nature and calculated it against the Blood of Jesus and it still cancels out our sins, all of them past, present and future. It affirms this in 1 John 1:7 (KJV) the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Not some sin. No His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV). And we know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8 BBE).
We somehow feel like once we’ve started following Jesus that His mercy is limited to us. Like He’s less forgiving after we’ve come to know Him. This is a false concept. He loved us while we were sinners. How much more then now that we’re children? Stop limiting the goodness of God to your actions. God’s goodness has nothing to do with us, but everything to do with Him. It was by His goodness that He saved us and it is by His goodness that He will keep us. This is why the Word says trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 KJV). Because we don’t understand the goodness of God. We don’t understand His mercy, grace, love, longsuffering, etc. Nor can we, so we must trust Him and in His goodness.
Exodus 34:5-6 KJV 5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.
Hosea 6:6 KJV For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
