I was in church once and my older children were running around the sanctuary playing. I stepped out of the group that I was talking to and cleared my throat to get their attention and just looked across at them. They knew without me saying a word.
There is an interesting verse in Psalm 32:8 (KJV) I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
How does the Lord guide us with His eyes?
The same way I did with my children. I could give a look and they knew what I meant, good or bad. Because every look isn’t bad. Sometimes it’s a look of approval or even direction. I have literally pointed with my eyes to direct them to do something and they did it. I have even done this with my wife. I have pointed with my eyes at something that needs her attention and she understands. People that know me well can look at my face and tell if I have heard someone say something or not. Why? Because they are familiar with me. They have watched my face and understand.
This is how He leads us with His eyes. We can become so familiar with Him that we feel which way to go or what to do. Because if we are familiar with Him, we will understand His looks.
After Peter denies Jesus 3 times we find this in Luke 22:61-62 (KJV) And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
Jesus’s look led Peter to repentance. Oh that I, oh that we would be sensitive enough, familiar enough with Jesus that He can direct us with His eyes.
This means that we should seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually (1 Chronicles 16:11 KJV). And when He leads us to seek His face say when thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek (Psalm 27:8 KJV).
Let’s pursue Him and His presence so much that we become sensitive enough that we feel His movement. That we become so familiar that when He looks we feel direction, correction, approval, love.
Psalm 105:4 CSB
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.
