There was this time when my oldest son Joshua was young. He was outside playing with a baseball. I had told him to stay away from the house and vehicles because I didn’t want him to break anything. I was inside with my Mama chatting, when all of the sudden I heard this noise. Before I could make a few steps to investigate, my son burst in the door. He quickly told me that he had been tossing the ball in the air and hitting it and wasn’t paying attention to how close he had gotten to the house and had busted his bedroom window. I told him you’re not in trouble because you came and told me. Then I had him go help me fix the window. Although he did do what I told him not to do, he came to me and admitted what he did.
How often do we do what God told us not to do and then instead of running to God we sit in our guilt? We may think that God won’t forgive us again. We may think that He’s getting tired of us messing up. His mercies are new every morning. God is not sitting there with a club waiting for you to fail. We’re usually the ones with the club beating ourselves up. Put the club down and go to God, He’s rooting for you, He wants you to succeed.
Remember that the LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy (Psalm 103:8 KJV). Don’t run from Him, but to Him.
Psalm 103:10-13 KJV 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
