Gather Your Own Manna

Food preparation has changed from what it used to be. Not only did people cook their own food at home, they also raised it at home. Today not only do most people not grow their own food, many don’t even cook. How many times have you gone grocery shopping and then decided to pick up something to eat on the way home because you didn’t want to cook?

Here’s the thing, many people do this with the Word of God. They don’t want to dig into it. They want someone else to study, someone else to prepare, someone else to put in the work. Manna was the food that the children of Israel ate in the wilderness. It is a type of the Word of God. Each person was responsible for gathering their own manna.

Moses was their leader, but Moses didn’t gather their manna for them, they had to gather their own manna. While we also need leaders such as teachers and pastors, we should also feed ourselves or gather our own manna. Jesus said that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4 KJV).

Don’t just rely on someone else doing the work. Dig into the Word of God and feed yourself.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Hebrews 5:12-14 NET 12 For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone to teach you the beginning elements of God’s utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the message of righteousness, because he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to discern both good and evil.
