Don’t Defend Your Mess

I came across this Porta Potty that caught my attention. It had a strap going over the top of it securing it to some pallets that had concrete blocks on them. It also had a padlock on the door. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to secure that thing.

This prompted the thought that people do this in their lives. They go through a lot of trouble to protect the mess in their lives. When something is brought to their attention that they need to work on, they lock it up and buckle down. If God deals with them about something or if a Preacher preaches against something instead of listening and changing, they defend their mess. They strap it down and hold on tightly to it. They would rather defend their mess than fix it.

Let’s not be like this; instead, if something is brought to our attention that we need to change or that would get us closer to Jesus then let’s do it. Let’s not stand ready to defend our mess, but to forsake it.

David had a mess. He had committed adultery, had a man killed and was walking around like nothing had happened. What did David do when confronted about his sin? David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die (2 Samuel 12:13 KJV). David repented, he didn’t try to defend his mess.

Remember the Word says he that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy (Proverbs 28:13 KJV). We must forsake our sins. Jesus is ready to forgive us and help us if we do. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 KJV).

Isaiah 1:16-18 ISV 16 “Wash yourselves, and make yourselves clean; remove your evil behavior from my presence; stop practicing what is evil. 17 Learn to practice what is good; seek justice, alleviate oppression, defend orphans in court, and plead the widow’s case. 18 “Please come, and let’s reason together,” implores the LORD. “Even though your sins are like scarlet, they’ll be white like snow. Though they’re like crimson, they’ll become like wool.
