Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is dangerous. It can harm you and bystanders. Interesting enough do you know that Louisiana ranks #2 for the most dangerous states for distracted driving? It falls right behind New Mexico.

Just to make the point, this is a list of how far you travel in 10 seconds while driving.

35 mph approx. 1.7 football fields

45 mph approx. 2.2 football fields

55 mph approx. 2.7 football fields

65 mph approx. 3.2 football fields

That is a lot of ground covered in 10 seconds. And if you think you can stop in time if something does happen, #1 If you’re distracted you won’t see it. #2 if you do, at 35 mph your stopping distance is 135.5 feet which is approx. 4.5 car lengths. And at 65 mph 344.7 ft approx. 1 football field.

How many people could you run over in that distance?

Just like in the natural, being distracted in the spiritual can be dangerous. We can be so distracted by our own problems that we can’t see anybody else’s problems. We can’t see the pain that others are going through. We can run right over them and never even know it.

We can miss the cashier, the waitress, the coworker and blow right past them if not run them over and never give a helping hand.

This is also why when someone begins to tell you about their problems, you cut right in and tell them all of your problems. Have you ever been the person that was telling someone about your problems and they hit you with the phrase “that ain’t nothing?” How did that make you feel? Then don’t do it to others.

We must stay alert to our surroundings. We must be attentive to the needs of others. We must slow down enough to notice what is going on and reach out to others.

Proverbs 4:25-27 BBE 25 Keep your eyes on what is in front of you, looking straight before you. 26 Keep a watch on your behaviour; let all your ways be rightly ordered. 27 Let there be no turning to the right or to the left, keep your feet from evil.
