Dig a Well

David found himself in the wilderness of Judah when he penned these words.

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is (Psalm 63:1 KJV).

Have you ever found yourself in a spiritual wilderness where everything seemed dead and dry? You just wanted some relief and spiritual drink if you will. But it was a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

What do we do in a wilderness like this? If you’re in the wilderness and cannot get out of it then dig a well.

In Genesis 26 Isaac finds himself in a famine. Abraham had previously dug wells in the place that Isaac was. Unfortunately the enemy had filled them in. So he and his servants dug the wells back out. Then enemies came and challenged him over the wells. This happens a few times. Then finally they dug a well and there is no strife over it. They keep digging wells throughout this chapter. They didn’t stop because it was hard. They didn’t stop because there were challenges. They didn’t stop even when they found water. They kept digging wells.

When you’re in your wilderness you’ll have to dig some wells if you’re going to survive. Even if the enemy steals your well, dig another one. Even if you find refreshment, dig another well. You don’t know when you may need that well to sustain you. What I mean is you have to dig in. You have to survive off of your prayer life, your worship, your dedication to the Word of God, your revelation, your relationship with Jesus.

Back to Psalm 63 look at what David said in verse 8 my soul followeth hard after thee.. (Psalm 63:8 KJV). That’s it, you’ve got to dig in and decide that you will survive this. You’ve got to follow hard after God. That’s why Isaac dug so many wells, he planned on surviving. When you get a refreshing word, hold onto it. When you get into a prayer meeting that moves you, hold onto it. When you lose yourself in worship, hold onto it. Go back to those experiences and gain strength from them. I cannot tell you how long your wilderness may last, but it will not last forever.

You can dig a grave or dig a well in your wilderness. Decide to live and dig a well.

Deuteronomy 30:19 WEB Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your descendants,

John 7:37 KJV In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
