I arrived home one day and as I did Levi, my youngest son at a year and a half old, came running to me. I picked him up and he points to the kitchen and says “cookie.” The babysitter tells me that he keeps saying that. I said, “yeah, cookie doesn’t always mean cookie.” You see, cookie could mean, sucker, pacifier, banana, cracker, etc. As his daddy I knew this. He couldn’t say these other words, he just knew that he wanted something and he knew how to say cookie. If he pointed and said cookie, I would figure out what he wanted or needed.
Many times we may go to prayer and we just don’t know what to say. We may know that we need something. Our hearts may be aching in desperate need. Yet we don’t know exactly what words to form to say what we need. Our Father knows what you need before you ask him (Matthew 6:8 ISV). Sometimes we have to say to God, You know what I need, I’m coming to You for help.
Sometimes we may pray in the Spirit and the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered (Romans 8:26 WEB).
I’m writing this to let you know that it’s okay if you don’t know what to say. Don’t feel discouraged if you’re at a loss for words when you come to God for help in time of need. Just cry out the words that you do have, God will sort it out. After all He is our Father and He knows His children.
Psalm 103:13-14 KJV 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
One response to “Cookies”
Amen! This is so true.
