Communication Through Prayer

There are many forms of communication. There are verbal, nonverbal (body language and gestures), written, and visual. Other important forms include listening (actively receiving and interpreting messages) and different communication styles or channels like interpersonal (one-on-one), organizational, and mass communication.

We know how to communicate. We communicate with each other all the time. When it comes to communication with God through prayer though we struggle. We for some reason narrow down the idea of how communication works. Often people just speak to God and that’s it. They leave all the other forms of communication to the side thinking these aren’t part of prayer. Prayer is communication with God. God wants to speak to you too. It may or may not be audible. It may be with a situation that touches your heart. It may be through a song. It may be through the text that He has delivered to you. Just like when you sit in someone’s presence and say nothing, but you are spending time together. God may want to spend time with you like this.

So don’t over complicate prayer. Talk to God, listen to Him, listen to worship music, read His Word, think about Him. This is prayer, this is communication with God.

Philippians 4:6-9 NET 6 Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. 9 And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.

Jeremiah 33:3 NET ‘Call on me in prayer and I will answer you. I will show you great and mysterious things which you still do not know about.’
