Imagine you have a toddler, and they played outside all day. As the day winds down it’s time to go inside, but they are having too much fun to want to go in. They may even say that they never want to go inside. Obviously, as a loving parent you’re not going to cave to their demands and just let them stay outside like this. You finally get them inside, and now it’s time for supper and a bath. Well, they don’t want supper, they want to play. They finally yield and eat, not realizing how hungry they were. Then the bath and another battle because they don’t want to. Yet again, as a loving parent you know they need to be clean. So they get their bath and by this time they have little energy left to fight bedtime. As they doze off to sleep you stand there looking at this child that you love so much.
This is a reflection of how God is and often how we respond. God wants to take us out of this world of sin, but we think that we’re having too much fun. We fight God when as a loving Father, He is trying to take care of us. When He finally gets us in He feeds us with His Word and cleans us from the sin out of our lives. Sometimes we resist this process wanting to hold onto part of the world. Then when we finally yield we get to rest peacefully as God looks on. Today, if God has been dealing with you, don’t fight Him anymore. He loves you and just wants to take care of you.
Psalm 103:13: “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”
Luke 11:13 BBE If, then, you who are evil are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who make request to him?
