Be Resolved

New year, new me. I’m sure you’ve heard that before. Yep it’s the New Year and time for people to make those New Year resolutions that they usually give up on around the third week of January. It is usually the plan to eat better, work out more, get in shape or maybe it’s to save more money. Whatever it is, people somehow like the idea of committing to these things at the beginning of the New Year. After a short time though they begin to wean off of this new found motivation.

So the problem is that it’s not really a resolution that they’ve made. It was a decision to try and do better. Why do I say it was not a resolution? Well it’s simple. A resolution is defined as the quality of being determined or resolute a firm decision to do or not to do something. You see they were not resolved or determined to the task. Another word for it is to be steadfast. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV)

I say you should make a resolution.  A firm resolution that you are determined to stick to for the rest of your life. To be steadfast in living for God. To follow Jesus, not just until it gets hard, but from here on out. To endure unto the end just as Jesus did for us. As it says in Hebrews 12:1-2 ISV 1 Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us, 2 fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The previous chapter of Hebrews speaks of all those who endured and kept the faith. Let’s be determined to keep the faith. Be committed to this and never turn back. Know that you may start with motivation, but you’ll have to finish with determination.

So press on toward the goal, be steadfast.

Philippians 3:12-14 WEB 12 Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
