When I was young I loved grape soda. My Daddy would go to a local grocery store, the food warehouse they called it. He would get an assortment of fruit soda drinks. One day I was sitting in the living room with Daddy eating a bowl of chilli and drinking a grape soda. I took a big drink and a mosquito hawk (crane fly) went into my mouth, it had apparently landed in my drink. I spit the grape soda all over my chilli. This embarrassed me and I tossed my food and drink and went outside. Although it was not the soda’s fault, I was an adult before I drank grape soda again.
Sometimes we can get a bad taste in our mouth over something that has happened that we associate with God. It can be an action of someone that offends us. It may be something we overheard or observed. It may not even have anything to do with us personally. The fact is we got offended and now we have a bad taste in our mouth towards God. God didn’t do it, but we distance ourselves from Him because of it.
We should not do this. We should actually draw near to God in these situations. Because an offense like this can affect us for years. The word says that
a brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle (Proverbs 18:19 KJV). What if we are the brother offended? We must be quick to attend to this because if not a root of bitterness can spring up (Hebrews 12:15). This can grow into every aspect of our lives and pull us away from God.
If you’ve been offended. If you have a bad taste in your mouth over something and you’re taking out on God. Recognize this and change it. The Word says taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him (Psalm 34:8 KJV). Taste again, draw near to God, and he will draw near to you (James 4:8 NET).
1 Peter 2:2-3 KJV 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
