I have had a few conversations over time with folks that question their value to the kingdom of God. They think that they aren’t having any effect. I’ve heard stuff like, “Well, I don’t really hear from God like other people do,” or, “I don’t really have a ministry like others.” So I wanted to share some of the things that we shared.
Many people forget about Ananias in the Bible that prayed for Paul and helped convert him. That’s all that is ever said about Ananias, but he is connected to everything that Paul ever did. From every soul Paul helped to the epistles that he wrote, Ananias had a tie to. If Paul was the only person that Ananias ever helped, what a ministry he had.
Then consider Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12 about the body of Christ. Consider your own body, which part is unimportant to you and you are willing to part with? Just because you may not do what another part of the body does, does not mean that you are unimportant? On the contrary, think of the fact of how difficult it is for a body to perform without what may seem like an insignificant part. Losing any part of the body affects the entire body. Even a small paper cut changes our body’s entire focus to help the part of the body that is injured. Paul goes on to write in the same chapter about ministries (It is no coincidence that this all ends up in the same chapter). This is where he speaks of the apostles, prophets and teachers. He also speaks of gifts of healing and miracles. But in the same scripture he mentions the gift of helps. Just being a help to your brother or sister is a ministry. It may be an encouraging word, a helping hand or even a smile. Never underestimate your ministry or significance because without one part of the body how would the rest be affected.
Also never underestimate the value of one soul. I recently heard a story of an 11 year old girl that was invited to church. She came and today her descendants are missionaries, singers and faithful saints. Reaching one person, helping someone can be a ministry that reaches further than you’ll ever know.
Mark 9:41 KJV For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
