Throughout my career I have handled many different chemicals. One of those chemicals was cyanide. I dealt with it in very small portions and wore appropriate PPE. Dealing with it every day it was easy for it to become common. Just another thing in my day. I could have lost the sense of danger that it had. This could have caused me to handle it carelessly. This could have resulted in many health issues and possibly death.
Sin is a dangerous poison. We shouldn’t, but can get used to it and begin to ignore its dangers. If we begin to say, “it’s just…” and defend our lack of caution. We have then gotten dangerously close to sin. We can lose our vision because of exposure to sin. We soon will become too acquainted with sin and desensitized to its dangers.
We walk through this world every day and are exposed to many harmful things to our souls. If we don’t keep a layer of protection between us and these dangers they can begin to affect us. They can creep into our souls and poison us. Yes we are in this world, but we’re not supposed to be of this world.
We have to separate ourselves from unholy things. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you (2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV). We have to surround ourselves with God’s Spirit which protects and guides us. We have to fill ourselves with God’s Word so we don’t wander into sin. Don’t get so used to the sin around you that you begin to ignore its dangers.
Psalm 119:11 KJV Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
1 Peter 5:8 KJV Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
